Compare OpenClaw and Hermes with the same task

Use a controlled task and record evidence, completion time, failures and observed cost. Choose for your deployment and workflow constraints rather than a general score.

Before you start

  • Two disposable test workspaces with the same permitted tools and input
  • A recorded model/provider configuration and observed usage data when available

Both products evolve quickly. Official feature lists help shortlist a tool, but cannot tell you which completes your task more reliably. This procedure makes a small local comparison possible without treating marketing claims as results.

Fix the task

Use the RSS JSON from the first workflow. Ask each product to return the three most relevant items for a stated topic, cite the input links and identify one missing fact. Freeze the input file and task wording before either run.

Run fairly

  1. Record product version, model, enabled tools, workspace and time limit. If models differ, label the result as a combined product-and-model comparison.
  2. Run each once in a fresh session. Preserve raw tool output and final response without including credentials.
  3. Check every cited link against the fixed input, measure whether the selection meets your topic, and record failed or invented claims.
  4. Repeat only to measure a defined unresolved variation, not until your preferred product wins.

Choose conditionally

A tool that suits your messaging channel may be preferable even if another completes this one task faster. Keep setup time, ongoing maintenance, permission control and data export alongside answer quality. No comparative execution or cost measurement is claimed by this guide.
